Affinity FAQ

Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. Here, you'll find answers to common questions about autism, our services, and how we can support individuals and families navigating autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Understanding Autism

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability marked by differences in the brain. Individuals with ASD may experience challenges with social communication and interaction, exhibit restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests, and may learn, move, or pay attention differently. For more information, visit the CDC's page on ASD .

Signs can include challenges with social communication, such as avoiding eye contact or not responding to their name by 9 months. Repetitive behaviors and unusual reactions to sensory inputs are also common signs. For a detailed list, click here .

It's important to follow up with the clinician who made the diagnosis for recommendations on next steps, which often include seeking applied behavior analysis (ABA) treatment. Typically, their recommendation will include a list of providers, but if that list wasn’t provided, your insurance provider can also offer a list of in-network providers.

Our Services

Not at this time. We only provide individuals on the autism spectrum from ages 2-18.

We specialize in 1:1 applied behavior analysis treatment for individuals on the autism spectrum and do not offer couples therapy.

We provide evaluations for those seeking to understand their own or their child's relationship with autism. Currently, we are only paneled with Medicaid for these services.

Parents

The biggest hurdle is often the long waitlists for autism evaluations. Starting the process early is crucial. For treatment, preschool-aged children typically face fewer obstacles, especially for daytime sessions.

We provide monthly parent training as part of our treatment packages to address home-based concerns.

For Pediatricians

Affinity offers autism treatment in-clinic, at the child's home, or a combination of both, typically requiring 10-30 hours per week for several months or longer, depending on treatment goals & patient needs. In most cases, an autism diagnosis is a prerequisite for insurance coverage.
